Our Vision

We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the participation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize this vision.

Addiction is one of the toughest problems facing our culture today. The growing problems within the family, as well as many other cultural stressors, make addiction a national and international problem that is growing by leaps and bounds. In the U.S. we have promoted a "feel good right now" mentality that tends to feed the addictive process.

Contrary to some popular thought, people don't become addicted to drugs, alcohol, or sex just for the fun of it. There are usually reasons why an addiction happens.

Even though Al-Anon came into being primarily for the families of alcoholics, a wide variety of people attend the meetings, including the partners of individuals addicted to things other than alcohol. These meetings can be very helpful for the partners of sex addicts, particularly when no other meetings are available.

One of the ways A.A. members stay sober is by helping others to recover from alcoholism. We encourage you to contact the nearest A.A. office, where local A.A. members will provide information to anyone. Only you can decide whether you want to give A.A. a try —
whether you think it can help you.

Is A.A. For You?

We who are in A.A. came because we finally gave up trying to control our drinking. We still hated to admit that we could never drink safely. Then we heard from other A.A. members that we were sick. (We thought so for years!) We found out that many people suffered from the same feelings of guilt and loneliness and hopelessness that we did. We found out that we had these feelings because we had the disease of alcoholism.

We decided to try and face up to what alcohol had done to us. Here are some of the questions we tried to answer honestly. If we answered YES to four or more questions, we were in deep trouble with our drinking. See how you do. Remember, there is no disgrace in facing up to the fact that you have a problem.

CAWS 2009 ConventionCocaine Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from their addiction. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using cocaine and all other mind-altering substances. There are no dues or fees for membership; we are fully self supporting through our own contributions. We are not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization, or institution.
